Dear Editor,
Liberty-minded people tend to say things like "there is no major difference between the Democrats and Republicans." There is a reason for that.
Sure, there are differences between the two parties, but from the outside looking in, with a freedom-oriented, liberty-minded perspective, the differences are minute.
I see the two parties arguing over what is better to spend our earned money on and which liberties are most appropriate to take away in the name of "security." I see very little beneficial, liberty-enhancing results coming from either side.
Republicans speak about taking less of our money and then take more when they control both legislative and executive branches of government. Our national spending has risen 35% under a Republican Congress and G.W. Bush's leadership! We're no better off locally, with one of the highest tax rates in the nation.
Democrats always talk openly about spending our money, but stress that they don't want to trample our rights. The problem is, they like to pick and choose which rights are OK and which rights are expendable: they voted for the USA PATRIOT Act, oppose gun ownership, and more.
Luckily, we live in a free nation and have choices. We don't HAVE to elect only Republicans and Democrats. We can elect third party choices, such as Libertarians, instead!
This Election Day, don't throw away your vote! Vote your conscience and sleep well at night knowing that you made the right choice, no matter the outcome.
Sincerely,
Fran Tully
